Wealth inequality is not an accident. It is a policy choice.

Every year, Oxfam grabs the world’s attention at the World Economic Forum in Davos with a simple, devastating statistic: The world’s richest 1% own more wealth than the bottom 99%.

But statistics alone do not change the world—stories do.

Oxfam is seeking a visionary Lead Storyteller & Content Strategist to join our Global Inequality Campaign team. We need a creative powerhouse who can take complex economic concepts—tax justice, windfall profits, and supply chain exploitation—and turn them into human stories that ignite rage, hope, and action.

If you are a journalist, a creative director, or a campaigner who knows how to make the “economy” feel personal, we want you.

Role Overview

You will be the “Editor-in-Chief” of the inequality campaign. You will define the narrative arc for 2026, ensuring that whether we are tweeting a meme or publishing a 50-page report, we are telling one consistent, powerful story.

You will work at the intersection of Policy (the data) and Public Engagement (the emotion). Your job is to ensure that our content stops the scroll and starts a conversation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Narrative Development

  • Translate heavy policy reports (e.g., on corporate tax evasion) into a “Core Story” that resonates with the general public.
  • Develop the creative concept for “Davos 2027,” ensuring Oxfam dominates the global news cycle during the World Economic Forum.

2. Content Production & Commissioning

  • Oversee the production of hero content: short films, animations, and interactive web experiences.
  • Write high-level Op-Eds and speeches for Oxfam’s Executive Leadership to be published in outlets like The Guardian, Al Jazeera, and The New York Times.
  • Manage relationships with external creative agencies and freelance filmmakers.

3. Ethical Storytelling Leadership

  • Champion Oxfam’s commitment to Dignified Storytelling. Ensure that the people we feature are partners in the creation process, not just subjects.
  • Shift the narrative from “saving the poor” to “challenging the powerful.”

4. Digital Innovation

  • Spot trends on TikTok, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) and adapt our messaging to fit the medium without losing the nuance.

Qualifications

We don’t care if your background is in advertising, journalism, or activism. We care about your ability to move people.

Essential Experience

  • 7+ Years Experience: In content strategy, senior copywriting, journalism, or creative direction.
  • Portfolio: A demonstrated track record of campaigns that went “viral” or significantly shifted public opinion.
  • The “Wonk” Factor: You must be intellectually curious. You don’t need to be an economist, but you need to understand how to read an economics graph and explain it to a 12-year-old.

Skills & Competencies

  • Writing: World-class copywriting skills. You can write a punchy headline and a tear-jerking script.
  • Visual Literacy: You can give clear direction to designers and video editors.
  • Political Acumen: A deep understanding of the structural causes of poverty (capitalism, patriarchy, colonialism).

Why Apply for This Position

1. The Biggest Stage Oxfam’s inequality work is cited by Popes, Presidents, and Nobel Prize winners. Your work will be seen by millions and will directly influence the global political agenda.

2. Creative Freedom We are trying to break the mold of “traditional NGO comms.” You will have the license to be bold, provocative, and satirical.

3. Global Team You will collaborate with activists from Brazil, India, Nigeria, and the US, ensuring our stories reflect a truly global perspective.

  2. Search: Use keywords “Content,” “Campaigns,” or “Inequality.”
  3. The Application:
    • CV: Standard 2-page resume.

    • Cover Letter: Do not just summarize your CV. Pitch us a headline for next year’s inequality report. Show us how you think.
